7. BIPOC Media Representation
The good, the bad, and the ugly - BIPOC representation in the media.
We all know that Hollywood has definitely made some progress when it comes to BIPOC representation in the media. And not just Hollywood - we (thankfully) are seeing more and more creators of colour break into and appear on our screens. However, there are still nuances to such a topic and questions we can ask: does ‘good representation’ exist in Western media? And what would this even mean? Is it morally correct for White authors to write about BIPOC racial experiences? How is colourism impacting who is chosen to be on our screens? Much critical reflection has been had on this topic and is worth reading into to form your own opinion.
